World-changing ideas emerged right in the heart of what is now Saxony-Anhalt, The Bauhaus art and design school in Dessau and its buildings are a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and still have a strong influence on modern architecture today. What would the world be like without the Reformation? Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, which is now officially known as Lutherstadt Wittenberg and, together with Eisleben, makes up another UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. And the Nebra Sky Disc, part of the UNESCO Memory of the World program, is the world’s earliest representation of the cosmos. 4. Here the food and drink are delicious!
Did you know that we have our own wine-growing area? In Saale-Unstrut, in the south of Saxony-Anhalt, there are many small vineyards and wineries where you will be welcome to taste some fine wines. If you are more of a beer drinker, you will find breweries in Tangermünde, Gardelegen, Colbitz and Magdeburg, for example, where craft beer is also produced for connoisseurs. The region even holds its own craft beer festival every year. And for those special occasions, Saxony-Anhalt is home to many popular restaurants, which have something to offer everyone, including vegan dishes, traditional and regional food, burgers, Asian food and Michelin-starred cuisine.

You won't have to worry about childcare, because Saxony-Anhalt has one of the highest percentages of children in day care in the whole of Germany. There’s always something happening in Saxony-Anhalt, including EDM parties, the Melt! festival at Ferropolis and many other events. On offer are movies, concerts, festivals, art exhibitions, theater performances and much more. If you're interested in art and culture then you can visit some of the many interesting museums and galleries, such as the Art Museum Moritzburg in Halle and the Magdeburg Art Museum.
And the annual witches’ dance in Thale on Walpurgis night is the perfect event for anyone who enjoys dressing up.
