Science and business under one roof

Lower risks, less pain and shorter convalescence times; these are just some of the advantages of modern, image-guided, minimally invasive methods in medicine. At the Research Campus STIMULATE  in Magdeburg, the future of medical treatment is being developed. The Research Campus STIMULATE is a binding public-private partnership between Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Siemens Healthcare GmbH and the STIMULATE association that bundles companies, extra-university research institutions and other bodies.

The state of Saxony-Anhalt has approved the construction of a dedicated research building for STIMULATE. A former sugar store offers the opportunity of interdisciplinary research with state-of-the-art technology under one roof. The development of a medical technology campus in direct proximity will create settlement opportunities for the business partners of the research campus.

“Customised” MRIs for infants and small children

Successful start-up at the STIMULATE Research Campus: Neoscan Solutions GmbH, a new company formed in 2017, has set itself the objective of enabling access for MRI for premature infants, infants and small children with “customised” MRIs and thus ensuring fast and effective diagnosis. The team led by Dr Stefan Röll wants to deliver the first of these MRI devices from Saxony-Anhalt in three years; approximately 35 jobs are to be created in the medium term.

New Bachelor course in "Biomedical Engineering"

In 2014, the newly developed Bachelor course in “Biomedical Engineering” was launched at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. The course has since enjoyed great popularity and has developed into the strongest course in the engineering sciences! The Biomedical Engineering course is resident at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and is aimed at potential students who are interested in working in the technical engineering sciences with the field of application of medicine.

Partners from science and business are working together on the joint project KIDs-CT. The aim is to develop a CT platform that possesses open interfaces in hardware and software and that, at the same time, has a modular structure. This modularity refers both to the internal hardware structure (e.g. exchangeable detector and electronics modules for processing high-speed signals) as well as the periphery (combination with additional modalities such as optical 3D imaging). With this approach, new recording modes are to be developed that provide for a reduction of the X-ray dose – an important aspect for interventional use.
